Press Release
Intermountain McKay-Dee
Hospital Center Expands Real-Time Locating Solution (RTLS) from Versus
(Traverse City, Michigan, September 30, 2009) – Intermountain
McKay-Dee Hospital Center and Versus Technology, Inc. (Versus) are pleased to
announce an expansion of the 2002 Real-time Locating Solution (RTLS) at
Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital Center to include Versus’ Enterprise Asset Management solution. The real-time asset tracking application will allow McKay-Dee to
quickly and easily locate equipment, monitor utilization and inventory levels,
and receive preventative maintenance alerts.
The Versus infrared (IR) and radio-frequency identification
(RFID) sensory network enables accurate locating of unique ID tags affixed to
the hospital’s assets. Tagging assets allows staff to instantly locate needed
equipment and contributes to greater efficiency throughout the facility.
McKay-Dee initially plans to track over 2,000 assets throughout the 352-bed
facility.
Utilizing Versus’ exclusive rules-based software, McKay-Dee
Hospital benefits from the efficiencies generated by task automation. For
example: with preventative maintenance dates known, as the date approaches,
Versus will alert the appropriate staff that a particular piece of equipment is
due for maintenance and deliver the equipment’s current location. Similar
rules-based applications will notify staff of warranty expirations and
low-battery status. Real-time awareness of an asset’s location will help staff
immediately locate rarely used assets and control inventory levels for
frequently used items to ensure that the equipment is appropriately stocked and
available for use.
With the Versus Reports Plus™ program, McKay-Dee Hospital Center
will also have a tool to map utilization according to the asset’s make/model
and per unit usage. This will help McKay-Dee develop equipment storage models
and quickly assess equipment needs. When making rental or purchase decisions,
hospital staff will be able to see if certain makes and models seem to be
preferred and investigate all information. This insight will aid staff
satisfaction on all levels.
McKay-Dee Hospital is a hospital within the Intermountain
Healthcare system. Recently, President
Obama praised Intermountain Healthcare for its healthcare delivery system that offers “high
quality care at costs well-below average.” It is, in part, Intermountain
Healthcare’s use of technologies that create greater efficiency and reduce
expenditures—like the Versus Real-time Locating System—that contribute to its
evidence-based medicine philosophy by ensuring that equipment is maintained and
ready for use.
